Best Doctors in America
We are excited to announce that the physicians of Tampa Medical Group have once again been named as “Best Doctors in America.” Physicians across the country were asked, “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, to whom would you refer them?” They nominated doctors that they trust and know are the best in medicine. Only 5% of physicians in the U.S. receive this prestigious accolade. Congratulations Dr. McIlwain, Dr. Silverfield, Dr. Burnette, Dr. Cruse, and Dr. Smith.

All adults lose bone mass as they age. For some this loss results in fragile bones that are prone to fractures. The World Health Organization has developed an online tool called FRAX to evaluate a patient's risk for fracture. The formula takes into account specific risk factors to estimate the likelihood for a person to break a hip or other major bone due to low bone mass or osteoporosis over a period of ten years. The FRAX calculator is simple, free, and is available for all to use. As always, guides like the FRAX are only part of the evaluation process. It has been recently thought to possibly underestimate the risks of future fracture. it also only looks at hip bone density and is heavily weighted toward age. In addition, if you havae been on osteoporosis therapy of any type, the FRAX tool is not accurate or usable. Please contact your physician to fully evaluate your medical needs. Click here to visit the FRAX website.
